Frank is a London based design studio run
by Pam West and Matt Edmonds since 2001. They
set up their practice after working informally
together for some time having met at Buckinghamshire
college in 1995 while studying furniture +
related product design. Both partners went
on to complete an MA in furniture design before
leaving Bucks.
Franks approach can be defined as a way of
thinking that can result in many varied outcomes.
This allows great flexibility within their
range of work, which transcends scale and
includes furniture, product, interior and
exhibition design - a catwalk for Markus Lupfers’
s/s 2002 collection staged at the Royal Opera
House, a bespoke fashion retail interior in
Manchester and a set of 8 disposable drinkmats
- are illustrations of their diverse projects.
They demand clarity, coherence + beauty and
employ a rigorous pragmatism that ensures
the resulting products are beautifully detailed,
and well proportioned but not for their own
sake. There is a reason for everything they
design and everything must work well, their
practice is not pre-occupied with style. The
importance of ideas is crucial to Frank and
remains at the core of every project. |
